Maxine Billings is a native of Villa Rica, GA. She now
lives in Temple, GA
with her husband Tony and their son Stefan. The couple also have an older child, a daughter named Natasha.
Maxine has enjoyed reading and writing as far back as she
can remember. During her summer vacations from school,
she participated in the reading programs at the local library and
spent most of her time reading. She also likes to write poetry.
In the tenth grade, one of her poems was published in a school
anthology. She liked writing so much that she always wrote more on
writing assignments than what the teacher required. One of her
cousins used to tease her profusely because she always wrote so much when he only
wrote what the class was told and got the same grade as her, an A.
When he found out that she had become a published author, he told her that he
was glad all that writing she used to do finally paid off.
Maxine graduated from Villa Rica High School in 1978 as a Honor Graduate. In 1979, she received her diploma in Secretarial Science from the technical school now known as West Georgia Technical College in Carrollton, GA. On May 2, 1980, she began her nearly 34-year career as a secretary for the State of Georgia when she started working for the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance in Atlanta, GA. After only five months, she received a promotion to be the personal secretary of the Assistant Deputy Insurance Commissioner of the Property & Casualty Division.
In 1985, while still employed in the Insurance Commissioner's Office, she received a Governor's Award For Outstanding Service In State Government. She worked for this office for ten and a half years before transferring to the Department of Corrections in Carrollton, GA. In 1998, she transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Douglasville, GA, and worked there until she retired in November, 2013.
Maxine loves to read and write wholesome stories that
inspire people in positive ways and give them hope. When she isn't
writing, she loves spending time in spiritual activities and with her
family. She also enjoys the mountains, indoor/outdoor flea markets, gardening, dancing, listening to Jazz and R & B music, attending classic car shows and museums, and photographing natural creation.
On November 16, 2015, she opened her virtual art gallery, Nature's Finest by Maxine Billings. She presently has five online stores that sell various fashion and home design products that contain photos from her many nature adventures.
